The brand Tree Below Zero was first founded in 2016, in Los Angeles California . During the global pandemic, the company relocated to Mill Creek Washington in 2020, which is now our new home.

Formulating a new drink was undertaken by utilizing a recently approved sweetener, and the first production took place in 2021. The new soda flavor turned out to be a success. With its adult profile, the sugars were kept to only 5 grams, and the total calories, 25 per can, making it an ideal choice for the health conscious consumer.

Manufactured on the banks of the Columbia River in Washington, allowed for the use of the crystal clear waters of glacial runoff. There, the drinks are tested before filling, and again immediately afterwards. They are pasteurized to remove bacteria and ensure stability, without relying on chemical preservatives.

What's in a name?

The name was chosen to honor the founders father, who was of Scandinavian Descent. Their family had emigrated from Norway in the late 1800's and settled in Minnesota, eventually finding their way to Ballard, a Scandinavian neighborhood of Seattle.

A common childhood joke was to sketch a tree with a zero above it, followed by the question "do you know what this is?" This required the deadpan response, "A Norwegian thermometer - tree below zero." Followed by a period of silence.
